Seahorses and the places they live face a range of threats in the wild, including destruction of the coral reefs and sea grass beds where seahorses live, fishing techniques which mistakenly catch seahorses, and collection of seahorses for souvenirs or for use in traditional medicines. Here are some ways that you can help these fragile creatures:
Help California’s Only Seahorse!
The Pacific seahorse and several kinds of pipefish make their homes in southern California's bays and coastal wetlands. These animals maintain a delicate foothold in selected estuaries and bays and are sensitive to habitat disturbance from a variety of human activities.
Help preserve their homes by urging the Governor to create

Choose Your Shrimp Carefully
Shrimp fisheries pose a major threat to seahorses worldwide because they can mistakenly catch seahorses. The good news is that the type of shrimp you buy can make a difference.
Support shrimp fisheries and farms that are safe for seahorses and other ocean wildlife.

Keep Seahorses in the Sea
Each year, millions of seahorses, corals and other marine animals
are collected alive and dried as souvenirs. These products spell serious trouble for declining seahorse populations.
Pledge to avoid these sea life souvenirs—and spread the word
to friends and family.
